How to Stop Dreaming is an homage to reality, living and the “unrealness” of dreaming. The video considers the bleakness of reality and the imperative of coming to terms with the way things are. Dreams are challenged – placed below the pedestal. Found footage from sources like National Geographic, Youtube, and the “vault” on the FBI website show documentary and drone footage which places images of destruction and surveillance, the microscopic and the macroscopic, on top of each other. They almost seem like the stuff of dreams. The poem “On Living” by Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet inspires the end of the video which helps us to consider that although dreams fall short, we can still live.
